BBC - Visual language
I worked within the News Online team responsible for producing maps, charts and infographics to support editorial stories on the news agenda. During my time in this role my responsibilities included identifying and developing global assets with a view to promoting consistency across the business, including other news output services (World Service) as well as departments across the wider organisation (e.g. iPlayer, Radio & Music, TV).
I helped establish a common set of iconography and repository that enabled new graphics to be rapidly created from a set of 'building blocks' which could be re-used as needed. In addition to providing a consistent aesthetic for customers, it also facilitated internal collaboration as the library grew and became commonly used across the business.
I created new template modules for BBC programmes sites including Question Time, Panorama and The Today Programme, with a remit to create a consistent digital experience which balanced programmes' individual brands with their respective channel identities.
Sky - Global toolkit
As senior UX in the global workstream I helped establish a set of digital guidelines to facilitate faster delivery of new work, and create a more consistent approach to development.
I worked closely with researchers and visual designers to create global patterns that could be implemented by teams across the business.
The work was focused on:
- Reuseable interaction patterns
- Iconography
- Fonts and colours
- Global components - header, footer, carousel, index, ads
This work created a solid foundation, enabling the rapid creation and deployment of new pages and layouts. Rather than re-inventing the wheel with each new project, a 'kit of parts' was readily accessible and could be used as a basis from which to build.
Areas across shop, the Sky homepage, find and watch and account management have all started to adopt and introduce components from the global toolkit.
